ARC Raiders Review: Intense, Brutal, and Rewarding
December 19, 2025ARC Raiders is a third-person PvPvE extraction shooter developed by Embark Studios, set in a post-apocalyptic world dominated by hostile machines known as ARCs. Players enter high-risk zones either solo or in squads to scavenge for loot, complete objectives, and extract safely, all while dealing with deadly AI enemies and unpredictable encounters with other players. Every raid is a balance of risk and reward, where survival depends on awareness, planning, and gun skill.
The game is available on PC (Steam) and consoles (PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S).

My first experience with ARC Raiders during its beta phase felt genuinely fresh. The game’s gritty atmosphere, especially in the Rust Belt, immediately pulled me in. Every sound and movement creates tension, making you feel anxious with each step you take. The environment constantly pressures you to slow down, calculate your surroundings, and stay alert, because you never know when an ARC robot will appear or when another player might ambush you to steal your loot.
One of the game’s strongest aspects is the design of the ARC robots. Each enemy type has clear strengths and weaknesses, but the game does not directly explain them. Instead, players learn through experimentation and shared discoveries, with new strategies for defeating ARC enemies emerging almost daily. This approach makes combat feel rewarding and encourages creative problem-solving.

The use of proximity voice chat is another standout feature. Being able to communicate with nearby raiders leads to some of the funniest and most intense moments in the game. Sometimes players cooperate, while other times it escalates into tense PvP encounters where deception and quick thinking matter just as much as aim.
ARC Raiders also offers a wide variety of weapons and upgrades, allowing players to freely customize their loadouts depending on whether they want to focus on PvP, PvE, or a balanced approach. The quest system works well as a soft tutorial, guiding players to explore different areas and understand the game’s mechanics without overwhelming them. This is especially helpful since the game can feel intimidating to new players.
Outside of gameplay, Embark Studios has shown strong support for the community by occasionally giving out premium currency and free cosmetics. This generosity helps build goodwill and keeps players engaged beyond the core gameplay loop.
Overall, ARC Raiders delivers an intense and immersive experience. With its strong atmosphere, innovative systems, and satisfying gunplay, the game stands out as a promising and player-friendly entry in the extraction shooter genre.
