SCAN International Demands Meme Page ‘2ph4u’ Takedown Over Alleged Defamation of Iglesia ni Cristo

In a newly surfaced letter, SCAN International, a communications-and-networking group aligned with Iglesia ni Cristo has formally asked Facebook meme-page 2ph4u to immediately and permanently remove posts which the group claims contain “unverified and defamatory claims” against Iglesia ni Cristo. The organization labels the content as “falsehoods” that damage the church’s standing.

The satirical Facebook page 2ph4u responded after it received a formal takedown request from SCAN International, a communications body aligned with Iglesia ni Cristo. In their reply, 2ph4u wrote: “Sorry, we have short attention span, @Meta AI, Summarize this. WAIT, WHAT?! WE’RE GETTING SCANNED?!”

The letter issued by SCAN demanded the removal of posts it deemed defamatory and unverified, marking an escalating clash between satire and reputation protection. 2ph4u’s flippant response has now added fuel to the debate around free speech, meme culture, and the power of religious-associated organizations to pursue content takedowns in the Philippines.

Though the page has responded with satire and critique, the request raises major questions about online satire, freedom of expression and the power of religious institutions to seek takedowns. Legal commentary confirms that even religious organizations may file defamation suits in the Philippines if they can prove publication of a false, reputation-damaging statement.
