‘The Dreaded Hut’: A Filipino Horror Game Blending Culture and Modern Survival Fear

A new indie horror title is rising from Gnaw Paw Studios comes The Dreaded Hut, a Filipino culture inspired survival horror game drawing creative influence from classics like Silent Hill F and Resident Evil. Developed by a small but passionate team, the game aims to bring local folklore, environments, and psychological fear into the global spotlight. You can watch the gameplay here.

The project began in September 2025 and is now gearing up for its official release on January 16, 2026. Behind the game is a dedicated four-member team composed of two Filipino developers and two American collaborators, working together across design, art, and production.

Leading the creative direction is the game’s designer, who also handles 2D and 3D assets as well as audio production. As a Filipino creator, they wanted to craft a horror experience deeply inspired by local culture, but with a modern and atmospheric approach that resonates with today’s players.

“I thought we could make a game inspired by our culture with a modern touch,” the designer shared. “It’s time more players experience Filipino stories through games.”

The Dreaded Hut promises unsettling environments, folklore-based elements, and a narrative that blends mythology with psychological tension all packaged with stylistic influence from beloved Japanese and Western horror franchises.
