19k Shipping Fee Leaves Shopee Customer Stunned

A viral post circulating on Reddit’s r/ShopeePH community has left Filipino online shoppers completely baffled, highlighting a bizarre glitch where the cost of shipping utterly dwarfs the price of the item itself.

The images, taken from a user’s Shopee checkout screen, show a user attempting to purchase a Xiaomi 120W / 67W Hypercharge Combo charger priced at a reasonable P710.

The delivery fee alone was quoted at an astronomical P19,558 (discounted from P20,058), pushing the total cost of a P710 charger past the P20,000 mark.

No Other Options Available

The user further pointed out the lack of alternative shipping methods, stating, “bakit po ganito? and wala ring other choices for the shipping kahit sa ibang products” (Why is it like this? And there are no other choices for shipping even for other products). The second image confirms this, showing the shipping options screen with only the single, outrageously priced “FBS Fast Delivery” choice.

What Could Be the Cause?

While the error is clearly a system glitch, several theories are circulating among the community:

  • Decimal Misplacement: The most common theory suggests a massive error in the system’s rate calculation, perhaps a misplaced decimal. If the intended shipping fee was P195.58 or P1,955.80, the near P20,000 figure would be an unfortunate programming mistake.
  • Unlisted Item Dimension/Weight: The logistics system might have somehow defaulted to calculating the rate for an item with incorrect or impossibly large dimensions and weight (e.g., treating a small charger as if it were a refrigerator or an industrial machine).
  • Specific Seller/Location Constraint: Less likely, but possible, is that this specific error is tied to the seller’s logistics setup or the buyer’s unique delivery location, though a glitch is almost certainly the root cause.
