Drakantos: Retro Pixel Art Meets Modern MMO Adventure
December 1, 2025Drakantos is a 2D sprite-based MMO from the 20 people team of Wingeon Game Studios from Brazil. They were inspired to create a 2D RPG game that was stood out from the crowd by also being a persistent MMO adventure. They wanted players to be able to adventure around the world, fight monsters, and grow alongside friends or strangers.
Wingeon Game Studios was inspired by the classic games Chrono Trigger, alongside modern games such as Stardew Valley, Graveyard Keeper and Stoneshard. Drakantos is set in Eldras, a high fantasy setting that takes from many series, but especially Lord of the Rings’ Middle-earth. Many classic fantasy tropes will be included, such as dwarves, dragons, elves, and much more.
In Drankantos, instead of playing as a blank slate with different options, you will be given the opportunity to pick from 21 distinctive heroes to fight with, all who can be customized with all sorts of orbs and artifacts. Cosmetics will include skins and mounts, alongside dyes, and “add-ons”, making player individuality possible despite the “base hero”. Emotes will allow players to express themselves, and pets will be collectibles for players to obtain.

You will fight over 150 enemies with different mechanics in all sorts of missions and dungeons. These missions and dungeons will also change over time. Elements such as enemies, bosses, traps, resources, and objectives will all be different as the game goes on! The world itself will change in a day-night cycle, that affects the enemies and challenges you face, leading to a different ambience and a more immersive world.

There will be many classic MMO features to expect, such as events, guilds, housing, and markets, all made to insure a great cooperative experience. There will also be PVP modes, inspired by games such as Overwatch, Brawl Stars, and League of Legends, featuring many different modes with weekly tournaments!
The game plans to release with no battle pass system, with a subscription service to unlock all systems instead. There is still no release date, but there was a closed beta test used to gather feedback and stress test servers. But there was a strong interest, with 300k beta requests and almost 10k online players in the final day. They are even considering early access if survey results deem it as a possibility.
With a passionate team that learns from feedback and a promising concept that combines a retro artstyle, modern gameplay, and robust MMO features, Drankantos seems poised to deliver a compelling game that many players are eagerly waiting to release.
