Bundles and more
Some of you probably realized that Nintendo Switch Online is required to be able to play certain games. Games like ARMS, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Mario Tennis Aces, Splatoon 2 and many more will require a membership to the service. Besides being able to play certain games on the switch, members will also be able to play 20 NES games at launch like The Legend of Zelda and Super Mario Bros. 3. We don’t know the full lineup yet since Nintendo hasn’t revealed it but they did say they will add new games regularly. Another feature for NSO is that members also get to have their own cloud backup for their game saves much like Steam does. Not all titles require an NSO subscription however adding that other titles “will vary”.
Online App
“This is the shit that holds Nintendo back so much. They’re great hardware and software creators, but good lord do they suck ass at everything else.”
– Stone4D from Reddit
You can manage your online activity as well through its app which you can download on the app store for both iOS and Android devices. As of the time of writing, only Splatoon 2 supports this feature.
It also has a voice chat feature but apparently people are already getting annoyed by it. One of the reasons is that you need to have the app open to use the voice chat feature so you can’t do anything else while you’re talking to your friends. It’s already getting a lot of backlash, especially on Reddit.
But given that allegedly, this is Nintendo’s first time making something like this, they’re going to make some mistakes.
Pricing
There are three tiers for the individual NSO service. The first is the monthly membership which costs $3.99 a month. The second costs $7.99 which is for 3 months. And the third is a subscription for an entire year which costs $19.99.
The other plan is the family subscription which provides access to seven people for 12 months.
