Tales of Wedding Rings follows high schooler Haruto Satou, who has secretly loved his childhood friend Hime for years. Their ordinary life changes when Hime, revealed as Princess Krystal of the Light Kingdom, returns to her world for an arranged marriage. Satou impulsively follows her and interrupts her wedding, only to become her husband by accident when they battle an Abyssal Demon. Hime gives Satou her Ring of Light, granting him powers, but they initially refrain from intimacy, keeping their marriage formal. Satou learns that to gain full power as the Ring King, he must marry four other Ring Princesses, each holding a magical elemental ring. With their power, they can defeat the Abyss King, who has been at war with this world for many generations. Their journey takes them across the kingdoms of Wind, Fire, Water, and Earth. Along the way, Satou faces political issues, cultural barriers, and Abyssal Knights and Demons. Hime struggles with jealousy as he bonds with the other princesses to gain their trust and marry them. Each princess has her own challenges: from Nephrites’ fears and family obligations to Granart’s combat trials and Saphir’s political responsibilities. Despite their growing closeness, Satou and Hime remain hesitant to take their relationship further, often sharing beds or brief kisses but avoiding sex. And even when they attempt to do so, some things happen that make them stop.

As the story progresses, Satou gains strength and magical ability through the support and trust of his wives, especially Hime. In Season 2, his emotional bonds with the princesses become central to unlocking power and stronger magic.

However, this also causes Hime’s jealousy to grow, and her insecurities and desire to have Satou entirely for herself become a cause for corruption, leading her to become an Abyssal Knight.
