Back in Mid December 2019, Aphelios was revealed to be the latest champion being added to League of Legends’ extensive roster of characters. Even Riot Games themselves presented the arrival of Aphelios as one of the most game changing deals that League of Legends has to offer given the amount of effort they made in hyping the said champion to the playerbase.

Come the release of League of Legends Patch 9.24, Aphelios arrived in Summoner’s Rift and immediately made an impact to the scene, with several players having witnessed a character that has made some unbelievably powerful plays and having a kit that was deemed as “overloaded” by many players including Pro players, and highly ranked AD Carry mains alike.

Aphelios would then quickly make his way into the League of Legends competitive scene, being picked up as a very powerful go-to AD Carry by every team’s bot lane carry player, and is still one of the most frequently picked champions in pro play.

Given how strong Aphelios was as a pick in all forms of play from casual play to the professional scene, Riot has made numerous efforts in balancing out the champion that they have released. Here is a list of every single nerf that Aphelios has received ever since his arrival to League of Legends.

Every Nerf Aphelios has received ever since his release:

Patch V9.24 – December 17 Hotfix nerfs

Calibrum

  • BUG FIX: Attacks that consume Calibrum marks no longer apply on-hit effects an additional time.
  • Mark AD ratio reduced from 40% bonus AD to 30% bonus AD.

Moonshot

  • BUG FIX: No longer applies on-hit effects.

Moonlight Vigil

  • Infernum AD ratio reduced from 40% bonus AD to 25% bonus AD
  • Infernum Splash Radius reduced from 500 to 400

Patch V10.1 + January 8 Hotfix

Base Stats

  • Movement Speed reduced from 330 to 325
  • Base Health reduced from 550 to 530

Moonlight Vigil

  • Infernum Splash Damage reduced from 100% to 75%

Duskwave

  • BUG FIX: Splash damage now properly originates from where the primary target was hit and deals the proper amount of damage depending on his level.

Patch V10.2

Calibrum

  • Mark base damage reduced from 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 / 40 (based on level) to 15 at all levels
  • Mark bonus AD ratio reduced from 30% bonus AD to 20% bonus AD

Moonshot

  • Cooldown increased from 9 / 8.25 / 7.5 / 6.75 / 6 seconds (based on level) seconds to 10 / 9.5 / 9 / 8.5 / 8 seconds (based on level)

Onslaught

  • Bonus AD Ratio reduced from 35% to 30%

Crescendum

  • Bonus damage reduced from 0 − 224.25% (Based on number of Chakrams) AD to 0 – 173% (Based on number of Chakrams) AD

Calibrum

  • New Effect: Instead of a global range, Marks now have a maximum of 1800 units instead

Weapons of the Faithful

  • Players can now see both guns Aphelios is holding next to his health bar

Calibrum

  • No longer resets Aphelios’ basic attack timer 0.2 seconds after triggering the mark

Sentry

  • Range indicator is now red for enemies when inactive
  • Sentry base attack speed reduced from 1 to 0.8
  • Turret damage taken from ranged attacks increased from 2 to 3
  • Turret damage taken from abilities increased from 2 to 4

Moonlight Vigil

  • Target range reduced from 1600 to 1300

Patch V10.6

Severum

  • Healing reduced from 8% – 25% (based on level) to 3% – 20% (based on level)

Infernum

  • Secondary Damage to minions reduced from 34% / 45% (based on level) AD to 23% / 30% (based on AD)

Crescendum

  • Bonus damage reduced from 0 – 173% (Based on number of Chakrams) AD to 0 – 164% (Based on number of Chakrams) AD

Patch V10.8

The Hitman and the Seer

  • Removed: No longer grants 3 / 6 / 9 / 12 / 15 / 18% bonus-armor penetration.
  • Added: Now grants 2 / 4 / 6 / 8 / 10 / 12 lethality

Moonshot

  • Base damage reduced from 60 / 85 / 110 / 135 / 160 (based on level) to 60 – 160 (based on level)
  • Cooldown increased from 10 / 9.5 / 9 / 8.5 / 8 seconds (based on level) to 10 – 8 seconds (based on level)
  • Base AD Ratio reduced from 60% AD at all levels to 42% – 60% AD (based on level)

Onslaught

  • Base damage reduced from 10 / 15 / 20 / 25 / 30 (based on level) to 10 – 30 (based on level)
  • Cooldown increased from 10 / 9.5 / 9 / 8.5 / 8 seconds (based on level) to 10 – 8 (based on level)
  • Bonus AD Ratio reduced from 30% at all levels to 21% – 30% (based on level)

Binding Eclipse

  • Base damage reduced from 50 / 65 / 80 / 95 / 110 (based on level) to 50 – 110 (based on level)
  • Cooldown increased from 12 / 11.5 / 11 / 10.5 / 10 (based on level)
  • Bonus AD Ratio reduced from 35% at all levels to 26% – 35% bonus AD

Duskwave

  • Base Damage reduced from  25 / 35 / 45 / 55 / 65 (based on level) to 25-65 (based on level)
  • Cooldown increased from 9 / 8.25 / 7.5 / 6.75 / 6 seconds (based on level) to 9 – 6 seconds (based on level)
  • Bonus AD Ratio reduced from 80% bonus AD at all levels to 56% – 80% bonus AD (based on level)

Sentry

  • Base Damage reduced from 25 / 40 / 55 / 70 / 85 (based on level) to 25 – 85 (based on level)
  • Cooldown increased from 9 / 8.25 / 7.5 / 6.75 / 6 seconds (based on level) to 9 – 6 seconds (based on level)
  • Bonus AD Ratio reduced from 50% bonus AD to 35% – 50% (based on level)

Patch V10.13

Base stats

  • Attack Damage growth reduced from 2.2 to 2

Crescendum

  • REMOVED: Attacking epic monsters no longer refreshes chakram duration

Moonlight Vigil

  • Bonus Critical Strike damage reduced from 50% AD (+18.75%) to 20% (+12.5%)

And that’s it. As of this posting, Aphelios has had a collective 30 or so nerfs on his kit since the champion was released. When talking about a champion having this many nerfs, no other champion in League of Legends can lay any claim of having more nerfs than anyone on League of Legends’ roster of characters.

Only time can tell whether or not Aphelios is once again going to have another round of balance changes. With these many nerfs, the playerbase can always have something to laugh about when it comes to talking about League of Legends and their balance team, as well as those who design future content to the game.
